IC Information:
Name: Umi Ryuuzaki, reincarnated as Marina Santana.
Canon and medium: Magic Knight Rayearth, manga (and anime and video games but I'll be drawing from the manga).
Age: 14 in canon/15 in StE
Preincarnation Species: Human.
Preincarnation Appearance: Blue blue blue
Any differences: Brown hair and eyes and slightly darker skin.
Preincarnated History: Before Cefiro, Umi was... not really normal, but more normal than she'd end up. Abnormal in that she was exceptionall talented as a fencer, with very wealthy parents, attending a prestigious private school, but still ultimately a normal girl.

Then, one day, when she and the other magic knights were at Tokyo Tower on some frankly lame school trips, by pure coincidence, they got magically sucked into a magical world. Magiiic. A midget of a wizard gave them armor and sent them off on a quest - something about a princess trapped by her trusted advisor, and that's all he could tell them before they were attacked. Umi, Hikaru, and Fuu traveled, off on a journey, meeting and befriending colorful characters and a tiny annoying puffball, acquiring magical powers and weapons on the way, and meeting the mashin, godlike beings that turn into giant robots.

They fought the 'evil' advisor Zagato. Then they had to fight the princess, Emeraude, and find out just how not evil she or Zagato were, everyone forced into these circumstances by a sorry excuse for a system to run a world on. The girls returned home, broken and depressed, only to return not long later - by their perspective.

The magic knights return to a shattered Cefiro, assailed by forces from outside who all want to gain control of the world ruled by the power of their will for their own reasons. Ultimately, the girls, despite not having any stake in the conflict this time, fight tooth and nail to fix it, meet God, and get a shockingly happy ending.

And it's all very CLAMP.

Some elaboration here.

Reincarnated History: Marina Santana is probably a lot more normal to most people than Umi Ryuuzaki. Born the youngest of three siblings to upper middle class parents, Marina has grown up in relative comfort, with a family that loves her, going to a normal school, with a decent number of friends. While there are plenty of things that Marina has wanted, growing up, she's never wanted for the basic necessities, except for a little bit of a shaky home life at times, with her parents often being frosty with each other. She never let it outwardly bother her, and even when they consider divorce, they always stay together 'for the kids', which Marina is fully aware of.

Marina picked up tennis at a young age; she'd always been athletic and light on her feet, had always had good hand eye coordination, and her siblings and friends played sports, so it simply seemed natural to do. It's never been a passion; little ever has, at her young age. Most of what Marina does is more for attention or acceptance than desire, the need to fit in and have friends strong enough to keep her doing whatever will appease her needs. Her performance is average, her grades are good but not phenomenal, and she never takes the hardest classes; all she really has ever done is try to do well enough to not feel bad about it.

First Echo: Umi's echo came right at the moment that everyone's numbers became relevant. The giant flash of light in the sky triggered a memory of the giant flash of light that signalled their arrival in Cefiro, disappearing from Tokyo Tower and appearing together, high in the sky, falling towards the ocean to their seeming deaths, and... not much else. Just the visual of the flash, the falling over a bright landscape, and the two girls falling with her.

Preincarnation Personality: On the surface, Umi seems to be an incredibly average rich girl. She goes to an expensive private school. She's tall, beautiful, and popular, is a star fencer, and acts aloof... sometimes, when she isn't ranting and raving about things not going her way.

Fittingly, she the least cooperative when the three knights arrive in Cephiro. Where Hikaru and Fuu seem psyched for the adventure and the chance to be heroes, Umi wants to go home right off the bat. The inane, illogical idea of a 'magical world' is nothing she wants any part of, especially when she has her own priorities back home. Umi can be impulsively selfish at times. When coupled with her surprisingly short temper and lack of tolerance for things that don't make any sense, she's usually the least cooperative of the magic knights.

Like the other girls, however, her positive traits run much deeper. When she's not being impulsive or frustrated by everything going on around her, she's incredibly loyal to those she cares for. It doesn't take long for Umi to want to protect her new friends and Cephiro with all of her heart - it's too beautiful to see it destroyed, and Hikaru and Fuu quickly become too important to lose. She puts herself and her chance to take Ceres' power on the line to protect them, in turn proving that she has the willpower and character needed to wield the mashin's power. As they bond, she begins to take on a sisterly role, treating Hikaru like an adorable younger sibling despite being the same age. She likes to tease and pick on her friends, and is usually the loudest in petty complaints, but immediately turns around to lend a hand when it's needed.

In battle, Umi is a controlled fighter. She doesn't have Hikaru's energy or Fuu's cleverness, but makes up for it with intense focus, and the same unbreakable will shared by other knights - by anyone who hopes to have any sort of power in Cephiro. After all, it's a world where everything's determined by will, they'd probably all do well in Gurren Lagann.

Umi was heavily affected by their battle with Zagato and Emeraude, for obvious reasons. Being forced to kill two people whose only crime was falling in love was traumatic, no matter how necessary it was to save Cephiro. It left the three of them in a malaise at first, unable to cope and unable to speak of it with their own family, having only one another for support. Returning to Cephiro wasn't so much a chance to make things right - they couldn't exactly bring the lovers back. Being together with one another and their old friends perked them up, though, and presented them an opportunity to try and fix things, if only a little.

Umi's temper was dampened considerably, as she made an effort to be more thoughtful and less self-centered; she blamed herself in part for the tragedy (as did everyone), in her case for thinking that way at first, in spite of Clef's reassurances. Both in spite of and because of the pain of the previous battle, she strove to focus even further on protecting Cephiro and the friends who had become so important to her, becoming more responsible and less prone to drama and emotional outbursts. Umi's attitude towards the magical nature of Cephiro grew far more accepting, having grown quite used to it, and her wonderment was somewhat numbed by the tragedy and her change in attitude.

She also grew more tolerant of Mokona's antics though, if saying that he looks like a marshmallow and teasing him with threats of snacking on him counts as tolerant.

Any differences: While Marina has much in common with Umi's snobby and selfish nature, she takes these to different degrees, in different directions. On the one hand, she doesn't have the actual station of superiority over as many people, coming from a more normal family, and not being any kind of star. This has just made her more forcefully arrogant, though, to make up for it and to try and assert herself in what ways she can. Marina lacks any deep frienships, and derives her self-worth from making herself look as good as possible to the people she does call friends.

Despite that, her real confidence is in the hole compared to Umi. Both of her siblings are overacheivers in their own way; the older, her brother, is well on his way to medical school after having been a star athlete, and the middle sibling, a sister, is breezing through her senior year, and simply much better at tennis than Umi is. With her parents distracted by each other, they have little enough attention to spare for her siblings, let alone the least talented of the three, so she often feels neglected, leaving her with patchy self-esteem. Accordingly, she has a much more difficult time faking control.

On the other hand, she's a bit more initially cooperative with people who she sees as being in the same boat, other people who seem to have been born into being inferior, though she tries to pretend otherwise.

Abilities: Umi's most important skill by far was fencing, the star of her school's team - a strong statement about someone who goes to an incredibly prestigious school. She honed this skill for combat traveling through Cefiro, becoming very capable of tearing through monsters left and right with it.

Her equipment consisted of a magical sword and armor, both of which evolved as she grew as a person and gained more strength; they could be stored in a small gem for convenience.

Umi has magic, as well, in the form of clearly defined spells.
Water Dragon - It's a dragon. Made out of water. It strikes opponents with a massive stream of high pressure water.
Sapphire Whirlwind - Water tornado, offensive and defensive.
Icicle Blades - Fairly self-explanatory, and there are a lot of them, typically raining down from above.
